 H1N1 NEWS

GET THE FACTS: H1N1 FLU SHOTS ARE STILL IMPORTANT!

FACT: There is not much H1N1 flu activity at the present time.

FACT: Public health officials anticipate that there may be a “third wave” of illness in the spring and vaccination is still important.

FACT: The Somerville-Raritan-Manville Health Department will be holding two H1N1 Clinics in March - Manville residents can come to either clinic:

            March 16 (Tuesday)
            4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
            Somerville Middle School
            51 W. Cliff Street

      March 18 (Thursday)
            4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
            Manville High School
            1100 Brooks Blvd.

Appointments can be made at www.greatersomerseth1n1.org or by calling (908) 533-9330. Walk-ins will be accepted as well. Flu shots are available for anyone who wants to be vaccinated, and are free.

In addition to vaccination, you can protect yourself from BOTH seasonal (regular) and H1N1 (swine) flu:

·    Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for 20 seconds, or use a hand sanitizer with at  least 60% alcohol. Remember … flu viruses can stay alive outside the body for hours.
·    Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth … germs often spread hand-to-face.
·   Practice “social distancing”. Stay 4-6 feet away from people who are sick, coughing, or sneezing. If you can’t move away, turn your head away from a person who coughs or sneezes.
·    Cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm (or sleeve), not into your hands. If you cough or sneeze into a tissue cover both your nose and mouth. Throw away the tissue and wash your hands.
·    Clean common surfaces that are frequently touched.
·    When you are sick, stay home … from work, school or errands. DO NOT immediately return to work or school – while you may feel better, your body is still weak and more vulnerable to secondary infections.
