Borough of Manville Makes Decision to cancel the 2020 Pool Season amid Public Safety Concerns due to the COVID- 19 Pandemic.

6/18/2020

MANVILLE BOROUGH-Borough Officials have announced that the Aquatic facilities throughout the Borough will remain closed for the 2020 season.

Governor Murphy released Executive Order No 153 on Monday June 8, 2020 allowing for municipal pools to re-open as of June 22, 2020.  On Wednesday, June 10th, the New Jersey Department of Health released a seven-page document with guidelines, protocols, and procedures for municipalities who decide to open their pools. The guidelines affected nearly every aspect of opening our municipal pools: from staffing, to attendance limitations, from sanitation protocols to signage.

After reviewing the New Jersey Department of Health guidance on pools it was determined that it was not in the best interest to open the pools for the season.  This decision was not taken lightly and was made in consultation with the Manville Borough Board of Health, Manville Office of Emergency Management, Manville Borough Health Inspector, Manville Recreation Department, the Mayor and the Manville Borough Council Standing Committee for Public Buildings and Grounds.

“The decision to close the pools was difficult but our overwhelming consideration must be for the public safety and welfare of the residents of Manville as we continue to fight and reduce the spread of COVID-19 “said Borough Administrator Brett Radi.

Playground Equipment

To protect public health due to the spread of COVID-19, the Borough of Manville Recreation Department has closed all park facilities.  Please keep children OFF playground equipment, these areas have been closed for your safety.

During this time, the parks will continue to be open to the public for walking and other passive recreation.  Community health is crucial right now and exercising (walking, hiking, and biking) while observing social distancing practices can help ensure public health.
