Travel Softball Programs for girls in grades 1st through 8th. The travel program is an inter-town league administered through the Somerville Baseball Inc. This program normally starts sign ups in late February, and the teams are formed in late March. The teams usually practice during April, and games begin in May and end around the last week of June.
The 1st through 5th grade softball program emphasizes learning the rules of the game, fundamentals, skill development and maximum participation. Strong emphasis is placed on having fun and winning is a byproduct of the recreational development rather than the only goal.
The 6th through 8th grade softball program offers more challenging competition, with girls extending their knowledge of the game as their skill levels increase. The emphasis is still on learning and development with the added features of playing under High School Rules, and readying the girls for the next level of play.
