Free Organic Mulch for Borough Residents
The Manville Department of Public Works is happy to announce a new cost saving program for Borough residents. Through an environmentally-friendly brush grinding operation, we have repurposed trees removed from public right-of-ways, and yard waste to produce mulch that is clean and high quality. This kind of “close-loop sustainability” – reusing materials to keep them out of the waste stream – has two benefits for Manville homeowners.
Mulching around trees and gardens prevents soil erosion, suppresses weeds, and protects plants from temperature changes by insulating plant roots. Mulch also returns precious nutrients back into the soil and creates an environment where earthworms thrive. Less fertilizer applications and less watering is required. In short, mulch is an investment that pays off. Now, with this new program, Borough residents can enjoy all of the benefits of mulch for FREE.
Residents are welcome to visit the OEM Building at 60 S. Weiss St. seven days a week between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00 pm to help themselves to as much mulch as they would like. The process is self-serve; homeowners are responsible for loading and hauling their own mulch, so shovels and containers are recommended. Please direct all questions to Manville DPW at 908-725-5512.
